Revised program fits perfectly

I received the new kit today and have spent most of the morning going through it and looking at the changes that have been made.

All the time I kept nodding my head and thinking yes, yes. The deletion of CVC words in the MULTILIT Sight Words fits perfectly with the changes our schools have made to how we are using phonics teaching and learning.

The redesign of the student recording books is great - much clearer and I am pleased to see that mastery only has to be achieved once.

The extensive overhaul of the Word Attack Skills Manual is wonderful and improves the resource greatly.

We found that the MULTILIT Reading Program had a clear approach to learning in areas of difficulty for our child. They were able to target the problems and provide a solution.

The progress Josh has made in the last year—thanks to MULTILIT, has made a HUGE difference to his life, and ours…We have felt like rats in a maze chasing around for a diagnosis and treatment—did he have ADHD, dyslexia, poor muscle tone, normal delay for a boy, eye problems, psychological problems, etc., etc.? We tried Reading Recovery, teacher aides, occupational/physical therapy, psychologists, optometrists, “brain gym”, SPELD and probably a few more I’ve forgotten. None of it seemed to work. In fact, his reading age began going backwards.

Zoom forward to now – and we really do have a different child. Not only has his literacy improved out of sight, but also his overall behaviour and maturity – driven presumably by a lift in self-esteem, is also much better. What a miracle!

… I am absolutely delighted at the difference MULTILIT has made to our students. We started 12 months ago with 4 students and now have 11 students on the programme [Year 2-7]. We have seen an improvement in at least 12 months on a standardised test for reading rate.

The students are motivated to continue with the sessions and for some of the older students [Year 6 and 7] it was the first time they have completed a novel. We have been using the MULTILIT Reading Tutor Program at our school (K-12) for four years. Our first students participated in the program when they were in Year 6 and are currently in Year 9. We began with 10 low-progress readers attending before-school sessions with teachers and trained parents. Applying the positive teaching strategies we had observed on a visit to MUSEC (Macquarie University Special Education Centre), the students bathed in the feedback they were receiving.

Before MULTILIT these students had rarely contributed in class, were embarrassed about their reading abilities and had low self-esteem. After around two terms they had completely changed. They were excited about learning, were the first to volunteer to read aloud in class (which completely surprised their teachers) and they entered high school much more confident in their abilities. I can’t speak highly enough of the merits of MULTILIT.

"We were delighted with
his final results"

Thomas completed two terms of the program and we were delighted with his final results. He is now reading at a rate of 194 words per minute, which is an improvement of an extra 49 words a minute.

His reading is now at the level it should be for his age and some of the post testing show that in some areas he is actually ahead of his chronological age. Most importantly, his teachers have commented to me that they have noticed an improvement in his self-confidence.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the MULTILIT Monitoring Program to anyone who is willing to do the work required at home. It has definitely made a difference for Thomas.
