A MULTILIT assessment is necessary to evaluate your child's literacy skills and to determine which of our reading programs would benefit him or her most. This two-phase appointment at our Macquarie Park Reading Clinic includes an hour and a half assessment of reading and related literacy skills. A MULTILIT Clinician will assess your child on a battery of tests designed to measure your child's performance in key literacy areas. A week later, the parent(s) attend a half-hour consultation with the clinician to review the child's results and receive a written report. If the results of our testing indicate that your child would benefit from a MULTILIT Reading Program, then a program specifically geared to meet your child's individual needs will be recommended at this feedback session.
Some of the tests we conduct during the reading assessment allow us to make comparisons between how well your child performs and the average performance of other children of the same age, while other tests tell us more specifically about the sort of teaching help your child needs. It is important that parents understand that a reading (or spelling) age is nothing more than a simple indicator of the performance level of your child in this specific area compared to other children of the same age; it has no greater significance than that and should not be taken as reflecting on your child in any other way. Other curriculum-based measures and placement tests tell us where to start on the various reading programs we can offer. Once an assessment booking has been made should you wish to reschedule the appointment you are able to do so (once only) provided you re-book within a 2 week period.
