MULTILIT helps low-progress readers improve their literacy skills

Learning to read

Learning to read is one of the most important skills we learn and is the key to future success. Some find it especially difficult and need effective reading instruction based on sound scientific principles and research. At MULTILIT we seek to improve the literacy skills and life opportunities of low-progress readers by:

  • providing practical teaching resources to improve reading skills;
  • designing and delivering evidence-based reading programs;
  • developing skills in others to create effective learning environments; and
  • engaging in continuing research and development.

A Macquarie University initiative led by Professor Kevin Wheldall, MULTILIT brings research powerfully into practice by working directly with students and in partnership with parents, teachers, community organisations and government, to assist those who are struggling to learn to read.

Research has shown that students with reading problems, taught by our MULTILIT methods, make extraordinary gains in literacy skills over short periods of time. An ongoing program of research and development ensures that MULTILIT programs and services are at the forefront of best practice reading instruction and evidence-based education.
